Listed building consent secured for five new apartments and upgraded dental practice in Reading

Reading Borough Council has granted planning and listed building consent for the refurbishment of a Grade II listed property on Oxford Road, Reading, to deliver five new homes and an upgraded dental surgery.

The four-storey property, dating from the early 19th century, is in use as a dental surgery but much of the upper floors have been given over to storage.

Perfect Smile will make better use of the ground and basement floors to provide a much improved dental practice for local people, while also converting the upper floors for five new apartments.

The building is close to the town centre and mainline station making it a sustainable location. The mixed-use development will secure the upgrading of an important local service and bring life back into this historically important local building.

London and Brighton-based firm Mohsin Cooper is the planning consultant and architect on the scheme.  Alex Bateman, head of planning at Mohsin Cooper said: “This scheme makes the most of an underutilised brownfield site close to the town centre, and also contributes towards Reading’s housing supply. We’ve worked closely with the planners and conservation officer to deliver a scheme to preserves the special characteristics of the building.”
